Today we are going to visit "Monte
San Bartolo Natural Park" |
|
The Parco Naturale del Monte
San Bartolo marks the beginning of the coastal hill system
in the Center of Italy which immediately follows the famous
tourist beaches of the North Adriatic Sea. It faces the
Adriatic Sea with a spectacular cliff and it reaches its
maximum altitudes on the hills of San Bartolo (m. 201),
Castellaro (m. 197), and in the villages of Casteldimezzo
(m. 195) and Fiorenzuola di Focara (m. 186). |

It is an extremely important
point for the migration of the avifauna and an ideal place
for many species of birds which spend the winter here; it is
also important from an archaeological and historical point
of view, since although it has a limited extension, it is
very rich in finds: from the Neolithic finds in the area of
Mount Castellaro to the archaeological site of Colombarone
along the ancient Via Flaminia, from the lost ports of Greek
origins of S. Marina and Vallugola to the charming system of
Renaissance villas and gardens.
The Parco Naturale
del San Bartolo includes an area in which nature and man
live together from a lot of time, and where the
environmental values are respected. The slope coming down
from the top of the cliff and leaving from the sea preserves
the traditional agricultural landscape with its olive groves,
vineyards, and fruit trees, the number of farmhouses, and
the net of roads linking them. Nowadays, only some
farmhouses are inhabited by full-time farmers and some of
them have been transformed into farm holidays, while the
country roads form a widespread net of green paths, often
shaded by big oaks.
